Bio

Meriem Ben Amor is a three-time Juno Award nominee Tunisian-Canadian singer and songwriter known for her warm, ethereal voice and versatile musical abilities. Fluent in Arabic, French, Spanish, and English, she also has a deep understanding of diverse cultural influences, allowing her to perform in additional languages such as Romani, Ladino, Azeri, Farsi, and Romanian. In addition to her vocal artistry, Meriem is skilled in several string and percussion instruments.

Growing up, she was exposed to a rich mix of Eastern and Western musical styles, beginning with her father’s Arabic Sufi chanting and later studying violin, classical guitar, and piano. After earning a degree in Electronic Engineering in Tunisia, she moved to Canada, where she further refined her classical music skills at the Royal Conservatory of Music before enrolling in a Bachelor’s in Electronic Music Production and Sound Design at Berklee College of Music.

For over a decade, Meriem performed with Vancouver’s Roma Jazz Ensemble, a group celebrated for its fusion of Eastern European melodies and Western jazz, led by Romanian violin virtuoso Lache Cercel.

In 2019, she began collaborating with two-time Grammy-nominated producer Carmen Rizzo—known for his work with Seal, Coldplay, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Paul Oakenfold, Cheb Khaled, and Alanis Morissette—on her debut album Once Upon a Time.

Meriem and Rizzo later co-founded the duo DIDON at the end of 2021. Their debut album Tunisian Tale (2023) reached #1 on the NACC World Music Chart for multiple consecutive weeks, and their latest release, Malak (2024), was nominated for the 2025 JUNO Award for Global Music Album of the Year, marking a major milestone in the band’s journey.

Beyond her work with Roma Jazz Ensemble and DIDON, Meriem continues to collaborate with artists across genres and cultures, always seeking new sonic and creative horizons.

New Album

Bab El Mdina

Bab El Mdina – the third studio album from Didon, the JUNO-nominated duo of American producer Carmen Rizzo and Tunisian-Canadian singer-songwriter Meriem Ben Amor, marks a bold new chapter in their collaboration.

Translating to “The Gate of the City,” Bab El Mdina stands as both place and passage, a space where ancestral memory meets modern design. Conceived between Prague, Vancouver, and Djerba, the album blends analog synths and hypnotic grooves that flow vividly around the voice. Rather than a continuation, Bab El Mdina feels like an arrival, a meeting of cultures and sounds that reflect the shared journey behind the music.
